Beer in the Yucatan has got even more interesting since craft beer makers came along. Before craft beer, we would have choosen Negra Modello or Dos Equis Amber. Don’t get me wrong, we still enjoy those beers but the craft beer in Merida is so good that it’s hard to resist.
La Ceiba makes four beers including a superb Imperial Stout. Patito makes three different beers including a delicious Belgian Blonde. When ordering craft cerveza, generally two choices are communicated: cerveza obscura or cerveza clara. We’re never quite sure which style of beer we’ll get but that’s part of the fun! After trying quite a few, we can honestly say we’ve found these beer makers to be outstanding.
Craft beer is widely available here in Progreso and in the city of Merida. We were thrilled to find some at our local grocery store (Super Aqui). Keen to learn more? Check out this fascinating blog post about Yucatban’s craft beer.
